Remodeling Hacks to Save Time and Money

Time has always been of the essence. So when home improvement is needed and the time department is lacking, uncomplicated and cost-effective ideas are your friend. Keep reading to discover a few simple, but meaningful, home remodeling fixes that will be sure to pack a punch in your favorite spaces and curb your design cravings all at once.

Keep it fresh – a fresh coat of a paint that is. Paint has the ability to make a world of a difference in large or small areas of your home while still being affordable. And don’t assume it can only go on your walls; paint can transform dated wood furniture and your front porch just as easy as it brightens up walls in a room. If you are as infatuated with Joanna Gaines on Fixer Upper as much as I am, shopping the new Magnolia Home paint collection is a must.

Statement pieces are your friend. Similar to the idea in fashion that when getting dressed, you should choose one statement piece to highlight and have everything else stay understated, the same concept can be applied when revamping a room in your home. Keep in mind, chipping away little by little is essential to staying on the frugal end of the spectrum. But by occasionally splurging on an expensive statement piece that will last forever, it leaves room for supplementing that piece with other antique or less expensive finds. This provides a good balance in material, texture, and your wallet.

Go spa or go home. Refresh your bathroom by turning it into a spa-like haven by adding candles (the Capri Blue Volcano candle by Anthropologie is my all-time favorite), purchasing a new shower curtain, investing in a nicer showerhead, reducing unnecessary clutter, and adding a vase of fresh flowers.

Make it personal. Frame your children’s artwork against a white background; it will aid in livening up an otherwise dull wall space. Break out those antique area rugs that have been passed down in the family; they will instantly change the look and feel of a room. Purchase some chalkboard spray-paint and use it on the glass panes of an antique window to convert it into a larger than life to-do list for your kids to write on, or a weekly menu to display in your kitchen.

Get funky with it. Go bold and take a swatch of your favorite patterned wallpaper and apply it on the visible backs of your shelving units or the risers of your stairs. This will make for an added pop of personality that a fresh coat of paint simply can’t compete with at times.

All things considered, customization is key. It is your personal space, so let your creativity flag fly and forget all of the standard design rules. Trends are just that – trends. They are simply a general direction in which something is developing or changing, they aren’t set in stone by anyone. So start your own home trends and remodel in ways that make you happy to come home and enjoy at the end of the day.
